In antiquity, it was considered that Magen David represents all four fundamental directions: up-directed triangle, symbolizing fire and air, while the other triangle, down-directed, represents the water and land. According the other version, the upper corner of the triangle, facing upwards, symbolizes fire, and the other two, the left and the right ones – water and air. The corners of another triangle with one of the corners being down-directed, are respectively: mercy, peace (tranquility) and grace. According to another version Star of David symbolizes the Divine Rule over the entire world: land, air and four cardinal directions – north, south, east and west.
But regardless of the image interpretation, the ancient Jewish esoterists were confident that Magen David is one of the most powerful charms against dark forces. It is not surprising that the Star of David was used on many heraldic seals in the middle ages and has been used nowadays.
