The gold pendant Sophia’s Fresco is a tribute to the grandeur of St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv. In creating it, the goldsmiths turned to sacred architecture, where colour and line became a language of meaning. Its image incorporates motifs from the frescoes of the south tower and choirs of the cathedral — rhythmic intertwining patterns, floral ornaments, and symbols of light that have endured within its walls for centuries. These elements are reinterpreted as the structural basis of the form, in which the circle becomes a symbol of eternity and the continuity of spiritual movement.
The jewellery composition of the pendant is based on the intricate interplay of gold and hot enamel. The ornament is executed in hot cloisonné jewellery enamel. The mirror‑polished gold surface reflects the enamel, visually enhancing the volume and creating an effect of internal luminescence. This creates the impression of a spatial object, where the ornament seems to continue beyond the material form.
On the inside of the pendant, the patterns are engraved, with thin lines interacting with the metal surface. The contrast of matte and glossy textures creates a rhythm of light and shadow, echoing the architectural logic of ancient frescoes.
Uniting multiple technical approaches, the precious Sophia’s Fresco pendant becomes a jewellery interpretation of cultural memory — precise, calibrated, and filled with profound meaning.
