«Star of David»

Enamel Diamond Gold Pendant

The Star of David, a hexagram, is on of the most famous symbols. There are a lot of interpretations of this symbol. Here is one of them, told by the Jewish wise old men.

According to an ancient tradition the Star of David is a decoration of sakkah, a special kind of a tent which the Jews live in during the holiday of Sukkot. Six points of the star correspond to six “noble guests” (Ushpizin) who visit the Jewish sukkah during the first six days of the Sukkot holiday: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron and Joseph. They are united by the seventh guest, the King David.

According to Kabbalah, the Star of David reflects seven lower Sephirot. Each of six triangles and a hexagram in the center symbolize one of the Sephirot: triangles starting fron the upper one clockwise symbolize Sephirot Teferet, Hesed, Netsah, Malkhud, Hod, Gevurah and Yesod in the middle.

Regardless of descriptions of alternative configurations of the Sephirot, Jewish wise old men are sure that the Star of David is one of the most powerful talismans. It`s no wonder that the Star of David has been used in many heraldic stamps since the Middle Ages until today.
